Marvelous Middle Grade Mnday
Wonderland (Farrar, Straus and Giroux, 2018) by Barbara O’Connor is a sweet story I’m glad I found. It’s told in three viewpoints, including a dog’s!
It’s the summer between fourth and fifth grade and Mavis Jeeter’s mother is moving them again. Mavis wants to have a best friend. How can she do that if they don’t stay anywhere long enough? She wants this new home in Alabama to be permanent. She’s decided that Mom’s employer’s daughter will be her new best friend and tells her so.
Ten-year-old Rose Tully doesn’t fit in with the others in Magnolia Estates. But then this strange new girl, Mavis, arrives makes her believe she can have a friend, besides Mr. Duffy, the gateguard.
Then there’s Henry, a dog on the run.

Last year I recommended Barbara’s book Wish. Here’s a link to this bestselling author’s FAQ.
This sounds like a sweet story, especially with Henry on the run. I’m glad you enjoyed it. Happy MMGM!
To you too!
Sounds like an enjoyable read with tons of heart. I’m going to keep this one in my sights.
Good!
I love a good dog viewpoint! Wish is very popular at my store – I should try to feature this one and see what happens.
Cool!
A dog on the run? I’m intrigued! Sounds a lovely story! Thanks for sharing!
Yea!
Three points of view, this sounds like an interesting story.
It was!
I think Wish was on my reading list for last year, but I never managed to get to it. This one looks so sweet. I love that it includes a dog’s POV. How fun! Thanks for sharing this review. 🙂
Both are good!
Sounds like the sort of book I’m after right now–“sweet” is good 🙂 Thanks for sharing.
Understood!
I haven’t read this one but your review convinced me to add it to my TBR list. Thanks for being a part of MMGM this week and taking the top spot.
Woo hoo!
I loved this book. Also, Wish is one of my favorites too! It’s so fun that she seems to always include dogs in her books. 🙂
Since I don’t have one anymore, I have to enjoy them vicariously. 😉
I read Wish and really enjoyed it. This sounds like a great book too. I hadn’t heard of it before- so thanks for putting it on my radar. 🙂
You’re welcome.
