Marvelous Middle Grade Monday
Tree. Table. Book. (Clarion Books, 2024) by Lois Lowry is such a sweet book of loss and hope.
Eleven-year-old Sophie’s best friend is her eighty-eight-year-old neighbor also named Sophie. Young Sophie’s worrying her best friend is increasingly forgetful and comes up with a plan to keep the old woman from being taken from her own home and put in assisted living.
I love the connection between the two Sophies and how the aide the younger offers reveals stories of the older one’s past.
Lois is an award-winning author and two times Newbery winner. Read about her many books here and learn more about her here.

I’ve read a few other reviews on this one. I also like generational stories. Thanks for reminding me to read Lowry’s engaging story on this week’s MMGM.
I enjoyed this one, but I haven’t had any students check out my copy. Perhaps younger readers would be more invested in the relationship with the older neighbor.
I hadn’t heard about this week–but it sounds lovely. Lois Lowry is an amazing author!
Given how good a writer Lois Lowry is, I should check this one out!
This sounds a lovely story (and I really hope young Sophie is successful!). Thanks for sharing!
I like stories that focus on how different generations connect like this one. And I’ve enjoyed other Lois Lowry books. Thanks for sharing it with us this week.
I really enjoyed this one, too. Thanks for bringing me back to my memories of reading it through your review. 🙂
I really like this book as well. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
