Marvelous Middle Grade Monday
Today I’m sharing a contemporary book, Boy Bites Bug (Abrams, 2018) by Rebecca Petruck. This is a story about friendship, prejudice, and learning about yourself. Plus there’s bug jokes and wrestling, which makes it fun.
Middle schooler Will Nolan tries to divert everyone’s attention from his best friend’s racial comment to Eloy, the new kid at school. Eating a bug gives Will notoriety and helps him come up with an unusual idea for a school project. But, he’ll need help from Eloy. Darryl’s already mad. Will this ruin their friendship?
Rebecca is also the author of the YA novel, Steering toward Normal. You can read about her here.

I absolutely adore this one, and it’s very difficult to find books that include wrestling. There’s something about the cover that makes it not appeal as much to my students, but I’m really glad I bought it. Thanks for the review!
Love the title and plot. Sounds like an entertaining read. Bug -eating and wrestling, I can only imagine.
I’m with Ms. Yingling as I too enjoyed this one. So many great scenes and the themes were brought forth in an a way that made it hard to not put down.
I loved Steering Toward Normal and actually have a copy of this book I haven’t gotten to yet. Thanks for the nudge. I will move it up my TBR pile.
